HypnoBirthing®

All too often birth is depicted on TV or in movies as a very painful, tense and dramatic experience, many women will tell you about their negative childbirth experiences. For too long now women have been programmed to believe that they will experience excruciating pain when giving birth, creating fear that casts a cloud over what should be the most amazing day of any parents life.

HypnoBirthing®”According to physiological law, all natural, normal functions of the body are achieved without peril or pain. Birth is a natural, normal physiological function for normal, healthy women and their healthy babies. It can, therefore, be inferred that healthy women, carrying healthy babies, can safely birth without peril or pain.” Dr. Jonathan Dye, 1891.

HypnoBirthing® - The Mongan Method - is a unique and simple programme of self-hypnosis, natural childbirth education, where women and their birthing companions learn to release any negative emotions or fears and learn that childbirth is a normal physiological function. Women will learn to trust and have faith in their body’s innate ability to bring their baby into the world in a calm and relaxed way.

HypnoBirthing® is based on the theories and work of Dr Grantly Dick-Read, an English obstetrician and founder of the National Childbirth Trust, whose book published in 1933 "Childbirth Without Fear", states that:

“There is no physiological function in the body that gives rise to pain in the normal course of health. In no other animal species is the process of birth apparently associated with any suffering, pain or agony, except where pathology exists or in an unnatural state, such as captivity."

From Dr Grantly Dick-Read’s study came his “Fear-Tension-Pain Syndrome” theory; the fear felt by women caused the blood in the uterus to flow to the vital organs, causing the uterus to constrict and become tense, therefore creating pain. He believed by eliminating fear, the muscles of the uterus would be relaxed and work how nature intended them to and babies would be born with ease.

The birth of HypnoBirthing®

HypnoBirthing® - was established in the USA by Marie Mongan, who is the founder of the HypnoBirthing® institute.

In 1989 Marie Mongan’s daughter Maura told her that she was pregnant. Marie drew on her own birth experiences, the theories of Dr Grantly Dick-Read and her training as a hypnotherapist and devised the HypnoBirthing® programme.

In January 1990 the first HypnoBirthing® baby was born Marie Mongan’s grandson Kyle.

Since then the programme has grown, many health professional’s who have witnessed HypnoBirthing® have wanted to learn more about it and become practioners themselves.

Marie Mongan’s HypnoBirthing® programme is now taught worldwide in more than 22 countries. Over 50% of births in New Hampshire, USA use HypnoBirthing®. Thousands of couples have joined the HypnoBirthing® family.

HypnoBirthing®“My dream is that every woman, everywhere, will know the joy of a safe, satisfying birth for both her baby and herself—one she’ll not need to forget.” - Marie Mongan.

Women all over the world finally have a way that helps them have the birth they want; one where they are calm, relaxed and in control.
